FAQ's about Mail Ballots & the August Primary Election
My county is holding the primary election by mail ballot. What are my options to vote?
All registered voters affiliated with a political party will receive a mail ballot. You can:
- Vote your ballot and mail it back (see below about returning your ballot)
- Go to a Service Center: There, you will be able to turn in your ballot, request a replacement ballot, or vote on the accessible voting equipment. Unaffiliated voters who wish to affiliate for the primary may do so at Service Centers as well.
I didn’t receive a mail ballot, can I still vote?
You can go to your County Clerk and Recorder’s office, and request a replacement mail-in ballot any time up until and including Election Day. While you are at the Clerk’s office, you can fill out and cast your ballot.
Make sure that you drop off your ballot at a designated mail-in ballot drop-off location in your county (including the Clerk and Recorder’s office) by 7:00pm on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4.
To see a list of drop-off locations in your county, click here, and select your county.
You can also go to your polling place on Election Day and cast a provisional ballot. Your provisional ballot will be counted as long as you did not turn in a mail-in ballot. Be sure to fill out the provisional ballot form as completely as possible.
Why do I need ID with my mail ballot?
You must include a copy of your ID in your mail ballot envelope if you registered to vote by mail and this is the first time that you are voting in Colorado.
I mailed in my mail-in ballot, but did not include a copy of any ID. Can my ballot count?
If you did register to vote by mail, this is the first time you are voting in Colorado, and you already mailed in your ballot, but did not include a copy of your ID, you should go to your county clerk’s office and provide a copy of your ID before 7:00pm on Election Day so that your mail-in ballot will be counted.
