by Katie Fleming Spanish speakers are walking away from the polls in Weld County. Although there are translators at some vote centers, many do not have resources available for Spanish speakers.
Federal law requires that bilingual materials be made available if 5% of the county population needs them. Weld County is using census information from 2000. The last eight years have most certainly had an impact on these numbers.
Although they did make some translators available in Weld County, there were not enough resources to keep people from walking away from the polls. This county likely has above 20% Spanish speakers today.Date: 11/4/2008
